Just got home to find some HUGE piles of dirt out front and some equally deep holes that were dug today for the footings of the new deck. I knew that they'd put those suckers deep but I didnt know that they'd dig a 4x6 foot hole down several feet for each of them. Tough to get a sense of the holes from the pics below but they're big. And they did all of this today on a particularly raw day--50 degrees and raining sideways. In any case lots happening here and more expected in the way of activity tomorrow. Till then enjoy the pics below..........

WOW! What great changes. It is such fun to be able to watch (even from afar) all the happenings at the Big House. Having spent many years growing up in and around the Big House (frequently in the kitchen) it is wonderful to have the Beebe family taking such good care of a place that has so many fond memories for me. Thanks for all the great pictures and descriptions of the ongoing saga.

Sounds like they know what they're doing: Getting the columns deep will prevent the frost's lifting them. Frost doesn't push up from below; it grabs the outside of the column and lifts it.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the blog, guys!
